5 Best Single Pin Bow Sights For Hunting

You have to relax when you’re shooting an arrow. You can’t be tense. And that just helps in your day to day life – Stephen Amell

Accuracy is everything. It doesn’t matter what you do in life or where you want your journey to take you; as long as you stay focused on your goals and keep whatever that target is in your sights, you won’t miss.

Hunting is exactly like life.

Single Pin Bow Sight For Hunting

Success is dependent on narrowing your focus, knowing your target, tracking it, and when you find it, having the patience to wait and take aim before firing when you’re absolutely sure you’re not going to miss.

Not missing when you’re out in woods, hills or mountains relies on having the confidence and ability to trust your judgment and equipment completely.

But that doesn’t mean that you can’t seize and use any advantage or opportunity that you can to improve the odds of victory and tilt them in your favor.

The right sight for your bow will do just that; it’ll improve your accuracy tenfold and give you just the edge you need.

And the sight that most bowhunters swear by is the single pin. Do you want to become a better, more successful bowhunter?

If you do, you’re going to need a single-pin sight.

That’s why we’ve taken a look at five of the best single-pin sights so that you can narrow your focus, seize the opportunity and advantages that they offer, and hit your target every single time you let an arrow fly.

Whether you’re new to archery, a die-hard hunter, or a long-time target enthusiast, you’re almost certainly aware of compound bows and the multiple benefits of using one.

But if you’ve previously been put off investing your time and energy in a compound bow by their prohibitive price, then we’ve got good news for you. You can now get a reliable compound bow that’ll shoot straight and true for under three hundred dollars.

That’s why we decided to take a closer look at five of the best compound bows that don’t break that price point.

We’ve taken that deep dive so that, if you’re looking to change your bow of choice, you can do just that, safe and secure in the knowledge that the hit your pocketbook is going to take won’t be dangerous and that every shot you make with your new bow will always be on target.

In a hurry? Here’s our top pick.

1. HHA Single Pin Optimizer SightOpens in a new tab.

HHA OL-5519 Optimizer Lite .019 5500 Sight (Black)Opens in a new tab.

HHA has been making bow sights for three decades and for the last fourteen they’ve been America’s leading manufacturer of single pin hunting technology.

The Optimizer is, in HHA’s own words, “hands down the brand of choice for moving sight aficionados everywhere”, and you don’t have to take their word for it, just ask any of your fellow bowhunters and they’ll say the same thing.

That’s probably why the Optimizer is America’s favorite single pin bow sight.

Calibrated to sixty yards, but accurate up to eighty, the Optimizer is easy to fit, easy to use and thanks to its all-aluminum construction is almost certainly the toughest, and most durable, piece of equipment that you’ll ever attach to your bow.

Adjustable in five-yard increments, the Optimizer makes it easy to zero in on your prey, and thanks to the leveling bubble, improve the stability of your bow and aim.

The Optimizer uses a simple two distance calibration method, so you just dial in the distance, aim, and fire. There’s no smoke and mirrors or trickery involved, just good old fashioned mathematics and the science of hunting.

There’s a reason why HHA is leading the field in bow sight design and that reason is the Optimizer.

Pros:

  • Devastatingly accurate, even though the Optimizer will only let you target things sixty yards way, it’s effective up to eighty.
  • Machined from aluminum, the Optimizer is, thanks to their patented A.R.M.O.R. technology, almost indestructible according to HHA.
  • In fact, HHA is so confident that the Optimizer will never fail, let you down or suffer the kind of damage that might make you miss, that they offer a lifetime guarantee on all of their sights.
  • It’s a universal single pin sight and can be fitted to just about any bow on the face of the planet.

Cons:

  • While we’re struggling to think of, or find, any, some more critical hunters have been slightly taken aback by the fact that you have to dial in the distance by hand. This is a little bit odd, as that’s the way this sight works and HHA go to great length to point that out, so we guess that maybe someone missed the memo or wasn’t paying attention when they ordered this sight. That’s it, that’s all we’ve got.

Technology is, according to Trophy Ridge, a hunter’s best friend and they use their patented REACT system on all of their bow sights to enhance their accuracy so that you’ll never miss.

Don’t ask us what REACT is or how it works, we leave that sort of stuff up to better men than us.

Made from solid aluminum, the Pursuit uses Delrin bushings to ensure that when you’re adjusting the sight, you can do so silently and without having to worry about disturbing your prey.

It’s ultra-bright fiber optic pin, rheostat light and glow-in-the-dark sighting ring also make it possible for you to hunt when the light starts to fade and darkness starts to fall.

Trophy Ridge is tenacious and knows that just because the day has drawn to a close, it doesn’t mean that you’ll want, or should have, to give up.

Ultra-precise, the Pursuit was made to give you total control over distance, and its high-performance vertical indicator pin was designed to allow you to fine, delicate adjustments to the range between you and your quarry.

It’s a serious single pin sight for serious hunters who are unwilling to let anything get in the way of success.

Pros:

  • Built to last and take anything that nature can throw at it, your bow and you, the Pursuit is machined from aluminum, which makes it durable and strong and means that it will almost certainly outlast your bow.
  • As silent as your bow is deadly, thanks to being fashioned with Delrin bushings, when you adjust the range of the sight, there’s no metal on metal contact, so nothing will hear you coming. Unless you want it too.
  • The fading light of day doesn’t mean that you have to pack up and go home anymore, as the Pursuit’s rheostat lighting and ultra-bright pin mean that the hunt doesn’t end until you, and not mother nature, say it does.

Cons:

  • While it’s incredibly accurate, there’s no distance indicator on the sight, so you’re going to have to figure that out for yourself while you’re sitting around the campfire contemplating the day’s events.

Buyer’s Guide

What Is A Single Pin Bow Sight?

As their name suggests, a single pin bow sight uses a single pin on a sliding mechanism that can be easily adjusted to allow, and compensate for the distance between the archer and his, or her, target.

Measuring distance in yardage (the yards between the archer, or hunter, and their target in yards), single pin sights are incredibly accurate and are usually fitted with a spirit level that allows the archer to further stabilize his, or her, bow and further improve their accuracy.

Hunters and competition archers often use single pin sights instead of multiple pins as they can often find multiple pins confusing and disorientating when zeroing in on their target.

The old adage “less is more” is often applied to the use of a single pin sight, as they give hunters and competition archers a single point of focus, which improves their accuracy.

Are Single Pin Bow Sights Easy To Use?

Another reason why single pin bow sights are so highly valued by hunters is that they are incredibly easy to use.

Working from a simple system that allows the hunter or archer to adjust the yardage (distance) and elevation by slowly turning the appropriate dials on the sight, they greatly improve accuracy and can often help a hunter or competition archer snatch victory from the seemingly inevitable jaws of defeat.

How Easy Is It To Fit A Single Pin Sight To A Bow?

As most single pin sights are made with universal fittings, they’re incredibly easy to attach to almost any bow.

The issue that most hunters, or competition shooters, fall foul of when attaching single pin sights to their bows is a simple, and easily avoidable one.

A lot of single pin sights are designed to be used by either left-handed or right-handed hunters and archers, so it’s imperative that, if you’re planning to fit one to your bow, you get the site that suits, and was made to accommodate, your, either left or right-handed, shooting style.

Which Single Pin Bow Site Is Right For Me?

That all depends on whether you’re a left or right-handed archer, the distance you want it to be effective at, and your budget.

However, if you really want our advice, we’d recommend the single pin sight that we use for hunting, the HHA Optimizer.

It’s effective at up to eighty yards, easy to use, quick to dial in, and is devastatingly accurate.

All that’s left is for you to do is make your choice and head out into the hills, woods, or mountains.

Happy hunting!
